Description

There are a lot of bits like this dotted around RuneScape left untouched for years - it would be cool if a few of these were looked at each year ratherer than being a wealth of new content in one area alone (although this stuff is obviously cool too). Seems as the OSRS team have a different spin on quests when compared with RS2, since they currently tend to concentrate on quests with higher production quality and a lot of repeatable post-quest content. I believe the most important reason why it took more than 3 years until OSRS obtained its 1st quest was how"ineffective" it had been for the small dev team to make content you'll only do once per account. Which have lead to quest updates containing only the quest itself.

Take the upcoming master quest Sins of the Father for example. Not only will we get the quest itself, but also a new agility minigame a new town and new rewards. This requires lots of dev time. So even if there are several bare questlines in OSRS, I'm afraid it is going to take a long time before we'll have the ability to observe the decisions of those.

As a curiosity, let us take a look. We watched 4 of those being of master difficulty, 29 new quests that year and only one pursuit had a novice difficulty. Yes, they had a way larger dev team back then, but still. The thing is, many of these 29 quests did not unlock any notable material that is post-quest, the story and quest rewards themselves were sufficient. I kinda want OSRS got more of those standalone quests with easy yet effective quest benefits, in between completing those big storylines that are large.

I'd be fine having quests that only included the narrative using small xp rewards. The problem comes from monkeys that spacebar everything. Not worth the time when barely anyone cares about these to make stories. I wager if they allowed quests to become repeatable with a speedrunning leaderboard and decorative tokens from repeating quests, so the monkeys would be clamoring for more quests.

RS3 does not have leaderboards, however they do have quests with rewards that are cosmetic. He cares about his quests, although I have issues with Mod Raven. Can they give out makeup on the completion? I was originally thinking about tokens that could be utilized a store that was cosmetic with everything pooled. But maybe quests could have unique cosmetics that unlock with 5, 10, and 20 completions, and a leaderboard (number of completions and speedrunning) will make it even more worthwhile.
